I'm trying to convince my parents to let me get fish?

Sounds like they are used to you wanting something, getting it and then not caring for it. There is a lot more to keeping fish than getting a tank and tossing fish in it. There is food to buy, medications to buy, heaters, filters, dechlorinator, etc. It is not a cheap hobby and nothing to get into if you haven't got the money for it.

There is much to be learned about what fish can be kept together, how many of each kind and what size tank. I suggest you learn about fishkeeping before jumping into it (and having a job, too.) You see a whole lot of people here who don't know what they're doing and you see how many fish are dying because of it.
 
I love fish, and I know how to take care of them, etc., but my parents won't let me get any. I don't know why, and when I ask them they just ignore me.

Any ideas on how to get them to let me get some fish?
 
well depending on your age you can tell them the obvious one that it will teach you responsibility. on top of that you can explain that fish are the least expensive animals you can buy on the market. their easy to take care of, if they happen to die there the easiest to expose of, and you don't need to spend time with them to make them happy. tell them that you don't need a 100 gallon tank just a small, inexpensive, 1 gal or 5 maybe 10 gal tank for a starter. plus the food is really cheap and last long. but this all pertains to freshwater fish. Saltwater aquariums are a different story and can be hard work if you didn't know already. saltwater is a lot more expensive that freshwater, yes, in my opinion everything is more elegant and pretty than freshwater but that's why its so much more costly. I recommend a freshwater tank for starters with your parents but do as you please. I'm sorry for the lengthy response but i hope i have helped at least a little. good luck!
 
Kids are suppose to have a hard time getting a dog or cat or snake, not a fish. hahahaha

Just buy all the stuff yourself. Your parents will more likely go for the idea if you can pay for everything. You should get an aquarium and salt water fish,
