I'm trying to breed crickets and they keep dying?

After a long time of buying crickets, I finally decided to breed them instead. i bought a 18 gallon bin, put egg cartons in it, a toilet paper roll roll and then i put in for food oatmeal and then cricket quencher. I put them all in yesterday and today when I went to check 25 out of 60 were dead. I read on a website that if the dead crickets are black and smell bad, they have too much moisture. But if they are lying on their backs twitching and are kind of crunchy, that they have too little moisture. I have a variation of both. What can I do? The crickets are for my cuban tree frog
Also i've heard of crickets having spontaneous death disorder. what is that and is it true?
