okay, about my riding style...
-i am a pretty big guy, i ride all kinds of trails, but i am more prone towards downhill and freeriding. my local area is pretty much all XC, but an hour or two, and you are at major downhill mountains. i do love trail riding, i really do not like XC, and i love downhill rides. i am signed up to enter the 8 downhill races in my area next year, and i dont like any other racing style. i do love the flat, through-the-forest rides, but i also love the gravity-fed downhill style. if this becomes a career, it would most likely become a downhill oriented career.
about the bikes
-the one that i have been saving up for is a specialized enduro SL. it is a 6" travel, all mountain bike that apparently has pretty nice downhill potential. it is made for going down the mountain, then riding back up. (30 lbs)
-the one that i am now considering is a specialized demo (2007-now). it is a total downhill bike, but at 40 lbs, it is okay at pedaling. it is commonly recognized as one of the most resiliant bikes on the market. with 8" of travel, it can take the 20 ft drops, as well as pedal on flat land. uphill is really not its thing.
my question is...
which bike should i get? i have enough money to buy either one, used, and i do love downhill riding and freeriding. i just want to still be able to take the through-the-forest flat rides.
anybody own a demo to share its performance on flat trails?
i have tested the enduro SL, and i was impressed, but that is because the last bike i rode was $2500 less.
which one should i get?
i really like the demo, just, i want to be able to ride on flat trails
please do not suggest other bikes, i have gone through the catalogs, and have stubbornly narrowed it down to these 2 ONLY.
heh heh heh... i am riding a 2008 rockhopper...that would explain the $2500 price gap.
i dont believe i am buying into a fad, and no matter what, i am getting them used for about half the "new" price.
i'm not an idiot. i know how much a bike is worth, based on components. in theory, the enduro SL should be $1500 new, with the frame costing $1700, which is not right.
