im thinking about getting a jeep?

im trying to decide between the cherokee and the grand cherokee year 2000. which one do you like better? what are the pros and cons of each one? Which one accelerates faster? both would be v6. Which one has higher insurance?
also are they good cars, or do they have a lot of problems?
thanks

The Grand cherokee (ZJ and WJ) are good vehicles. If you are thinking about modifications for off roading then I would suggest the Cherokee (XJ). You will find it is easier to get aftermarket parts for it and they all had an NP 231 transfer case. The ZJ's and WJ's had 231's and NP 242 transfer cases. The only thing different suspension wise is that the Grand Cherokee has coils in the rear and the XJ had leafs. If you are thinking about towing anything you will have better luck with the XJ.

I had a 1994 followed by a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which were both my wife's when they were new. I took over the 2000 when we had a fourth child and required a minivan. It went through the abuse of 3 kids, my wife (who trust me is extremely rough on her vehicles) and used it primarily as a commuter car. It definetly passed my test. If I didn't have so many darn kids, I would still be a Jeep owner today!

I personally feel that the Grand Cherokee looks better, performs better (it is mainly for performance whereas the Cherokee is for off-roading/4x4 capabilities). I believe that the Cherokee has higher insurance as it is favored and abused by younger people, although the Grand Cherokee is more towards the luxury SUV range.
