i asked a question yesterday on if the blanket i picked out was a good blanket and i had a couple people tell me i don't need to blanket my horse. i'll ask around at my barn for more opinions, and ill ask my trainer tonight, but i just thought id see what all you had to say.
here's the situation.
my horse just turned 15. were not sure of his breed, chances are he's either tb, standardbred, saddlebred, but im leaning towards standardbred. he's about 75 lb underweight but is on pasture 24/7 and 6 lb grain a day. this will be his first winter outside. at his old place in central wisconsin he was stalled and blanketed. i live on the wisconsin/illinois border and averages range from 0-30 farenheit. it can easily get in the negatives. theres usually a pretty bad windchill. most days with windchill its in the negatives, but last winter we hit somewhere around -50 with windchill. he's not clipped. if you were in my situation, would you blanket him? if you need any more details i'll add.
