i only bought my 2010 1198s corse so i could sit and look at it all day. not going to ride it as it would cost alot to get it serviced if i put any miles on it, and don't like hearing people say stuff like "damn that thing is beautiful", and " you can have my girlfriend if i could sit on it for a minute"...................................just kidding, some folks will never understand until they ride one and live with it for awhile. Life is a Ducati, everything else is just waiting.

There is truly a life changing experience that comes over you once you buy your first Ducati, something that you don't find with the others. I guess thats the "brand loyalty" that others don't have or understand.

Japanese bikes are amazing; they haul arse, they handle( some of them), they're reliable and they're as boring as batshit. As Oscar Wilde once said: Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative. Massimo Tamburini was a genius - the 916 and its progeny are not flawless, far from it, but as for looks, I haven't seen better. They are the ultimate Italian orgasm. I know I am biased, but I believe the 916/996 to be the most beautifully designed bikes ever. Isn't subjectivity great?

Ducati sets the standards for design IMO. All the Japanese attempt to copy and most fail miserably.

Not that i buy my bikes totally for looks, but it doesnt hurt. lol.

On a different thread, can anyone give me some ideas about final gearing for my 996. 1 currently run standard front and rear sprocketS and it is a real pain to get up my steep driveway ( even Sir Edmund Hillary would need o2 bottles). I couldn't give a large rodent's rectum about max speed; I'm more into acceleration. anybody got any suggestions?

Nicely put.

The 916 is what sold me on Ducati and is still the standard of what a sportbike should look like...nearly 2 decades later.

I knew I had to have one someday when the 996 came out. I know some say it's blasphemy but I actually like the looks of the 1098 series better. Also (and less importantly) my 848 would OWN a 996...

The 1098/848 series is nice but when I first saw them I was disapointed...looked to much like the other four...just didn't live up to the way the 916 did.

Like it or not the 999 series shock things up a little more. It may not have set the world on fire but it was definitely not a Japanese design.

But there all Ducati's and thats all that matters.

I agree. But my feelings have changed for the 1098, since i just bought one.

the 999 was different, in a good way IMO. there is a lot of hate for that bike because of the design. I thought it was just fine.

the 916/996/998 set the standard, the R1 copied as did others. now the R1 looks like shyt. the 1098 is pure sex on wheels, but i agree it does look a bit like the others... but where do they go from here? have we run the coarse for unique design? look @ the new Beemer, that thing is hidious...
