They will cut it for you on P1 day (processing week-day 1), even if its already short.

additionally there is no set schedule for showers, you get 1 shower a day and that is usually after you PT so it can be any time in the day. On Sundays you are granted Holiday routine and are expected to take a shower between 08-13.

When I go to bed with wet hair it kinks up and is therefore shorter
During Navy boot camp, are you required to shower at night, or in the morning?
If I shower at night, my hair will shorten as I sleep because it will curl.
So, if we shower at night, I am hoping to get my hair cut a little longer than if we shower in the morning...if I do this, will they straighten my hair out to see how long it really is and chop it off?
footnote for those claiming you don't have to cut your hari: Navy is the onle branch that makes you cut your hair...
 
I have very curly hair that draws up when wet...but I still had to wear it with in Navy regulations.

You don't have to go as short as the men do...Do not buzz your hair off. (Some women think that they have to, so I am just making sure.)

You should wear a collared shirt the day you get it cut. Wear a polo or a button down to the hair dresser. When you have the back trimed make sure that the bottom of your hair does not touch the collar. It has to be above the collar.

You don't have to shave your neck, but it will be close. See if you can have it tapered in the back...or try a bob-style cut.

It can grow back after boot camp. Mine did, but I usually kept it short anyway. I got tired of wearing it pinned up after a while.

You will need to shower at night. You will do a lot of work during the day and will be sweaty and stinky if you don't shower. Sometimes you get two showers. One in the morning after PT and the other before you go to bed.

They are not going to straigten your hair out to see how long it is...but if it touches your collar at all you will have to cut it.

Good luck in Boot Camp. It is really not all that bad. If you have never wore short hair, it takes some time to get used to, but its only during Boot Camp. Also know that you won't be able to use any gel or hair sprays so your hair will have to be natural the whole time. That was the hardest for me to deal with. I like gel, but they took it away. You also won't be able to use a blow dryer or hot iron.

You can look up some cute short hair styles on the internet before you go and try to get a nice style. Don't trust the hair cutting at the Beauty Shop at Boot Camp. They suck and don't care...and you have to pay for a bad hair cut...sinse you have to pay anyway get something you like before you leave.
 
You'll shower at night, every night. I pretty sure they will cut your hair upon arrival at boot camp. They are prepared for you and they will tell and show you everything you need to know when you arrive. Your recruiter should have told you what you need to do and know before leaving for boot camp. Follow your recruiters instructions and you'll be OK. Good luck and have a good Navy carer, I have.
 
No need to get it cut now, they will cut it for you once you get to RTC. You will shower in the morning after physical training, except on Sundays, when it is typically holiday routine and you can shower as long as you want whenever you want. Worrying about your hair length should be the least of your worries.

Also, no hair buns are authorized for female recruits, everyone has the same haircut in bootcamp.
 
There is no real need for you to cut your hair.

When you get to RTC Great Lakes, they will give you a free hair-cut about a day or so after you enter P-Days.

As far as showering goes, there is a set schedule your RDC's (Recruit Division Commanders) will have for you. Generally you shower every night (I hope you aren't shy, because you shower in groups of 40), and every time you're finished working out.

Army guy here.....so it may not pertain, but I will tell you about my experience.

When I joined the Army 12 years ago, it didn't matter how long or short our hair was. Part of our inprocessing was lining up in front of this old grumpy dude who would just shave it all off with no guard. Maybe the Navy is different...but in boot camp, I don't see why.
