Am I on the right track? A year and a half ago, I was found out I had cancer. Though I'm only 33, it wasn't my first big health disaster and though it damn near shook the life out of me, it wasn't even the worst. It was, rather, my 14th and 15th surgeries. It ended my career at a worldwide telecom company and last September I went into debt "un-relocating" myself back to my parents' house.
Now, I want to move to France, where I can get the 7 weeks of vacation a year that I need and where people work less. Whatever your bias toward that country may be, and yes taxes are high and salaries low, I speak French fluently and get treated like a king whenever I go. I'm single and over there, my sexy American accent makes me a little exotic. I'm pretty sure I can still have kids, and it's about time for me to settle down with a nice girl (someone curious about life in the USA) and learn the secret of how to live on wine, cheese, and rich food without getting fat.
I'm fortunate my new job pays very well ($120k) and I am generally paring my life down to the bare essentials such as trading in my BMW for a cheap motorcycle. I don't date and I figure if I can continue to live with mom and dad, I can be out of debt and have saved enough money to get a job there in another 6-8 months.
Is this totally crazy?
