I have a 1997 Mustang with the 3.8l in it. My friend is selling me his 1992 Thunderbird for 250 and it has the 302 v8 in it. A mechanic I know and trust (he's been in the business for 25 years) is willing to help me and let me use his shop for no charge (he sees it as a fun project for himself too). So what will I need?
Asking around, I have a guy at work calling me an idiot and saying this will never work. One particular reason that he keeps emphasizing on is that the wiring harness is completely different and I'll spend forever splicing wires and the like. Wouldn't I just be able to use the wiring harness from the Thunderbird? Also, where would I stand on a rear end? The mechanic I'll be working with said he thinks the one I have will be just fine if I don't mod the new engine, but he's not positive.
With that too, what else would I have to get? Additional info is that my mustang is a stick shift while the thunderbird is automatic and I'm pretty sure the thunderbird is just the standard 5l and now the H.O.
I'm 18 and not necessarily tight, but not comfortable with money either. I'm hoping that, given the situation, I'll be able to avoid most of the costs (use of a garage and professional help, donor car). Any help will be greatly appreciated! I am also very serious about this idea. I've always wanted to do something like this and just recently it seems like all the means just fell into my lap and I'm hoping it's not too good to be true.
