I'm planning on getting a 96 or up Ford explorer why should I or why should I not?

I'm 16 so it'll be my first vehicle. I live in AZ so there's a lot of off-road spots I'd like to hit up with a 4x4. what are the pros and cons of the vehicle.

The only con I can think of is that, the interior parts is cheap. Other than that I don't see any real problems with. I consider it a solid car.

well avoid the all wheel drive ones... major drive train issues with them . all wheel drive is different from four wheel drive. 4 wheel drive, the front axles can be disengaged from the drive train . All wheel drive all four wheel are engaged all the time and have expensive repairs to the gear boxes and transfer case . usually at higher mileage
