below? I know i'm not likely to get an answer but I've tried everything else so hopefully someone can help.
I'm trying the find the title/author of a book I read in middle school. i remember most of the plot and I would like to get the book but I don't recall the important details.
It is a science fiction book, about an orphan girl who works for the galactic government and speaks many languages. She is sent to work with some aliens on another planet (the only thing I remember about the aliens is that they can't swim and she saves one from drowning). While she is there she discovers that the alien military leader knew her mother, and hated her. I don't remember the exact details but she somehow did something to kill his bond (kind of a brother, but not biologically) and he will never forgive her for that. It turns out that she (the mother) was sworn the "sector Status" meaning that she was not allowed to tell anything about what happened or both she and the person she told would be killed. but she never told the leader guy because he was her friend and she didn't want him to die. Later in the story the girl is kidnapped but the bad guy who wants to kill all of the aliens that she has been working with. He kidnapped her because she knew so many languages and then they wouldn't be able to tell which planet he was targeting. I think his name was giovanni. so he is running the company that produces rations for the aliens, and he sets it up so that all the food will contain iron (or copper maybe?) which is poisonous to them. she can't let this happen so even though she will be tried and killed for doing so she intercepts the food delivery and saves everyone. when she is at trial she pushes to be able to read the law about sector status because she wants to see if it says that sector status offenders "will" be killed or "must" be killed, because she knows that the bad guy has been tampering with the laws in the system. when they show the law it turns out that there is a whole paragraph that has been left out of all but the original copy of the law that states they is not talking would put someone in danger you can talk. so she goes free and the bad guy gets sent to jail.
So yeah, if anyone has any idea what this book might be it would be amazing, but i'm not holding my breath.
