...dark haired soap opera actor.? The main female character was named Edith. She was sent to live with a rich man after her father(the rich man's brother) died. Nobody knew that she was the daughter of the rich man's brother. She had a letter with her, but the 2 brothers hadn't spoken in years so the rich man didn't read his brother's letter & it was assumed Edith was his ward. She was treated well, but raised as a companion of the rich man's daughter. Edith & the daughter were very close, but Edith didn't share the "rank" of the family. A visiting male friend of the family(the soap opera actor) fell in love with Edith, but since she had no rank their was no hope of them being together. A male servant in the house found & read the letter that Edith had brought with her & hid it because it revealed that Edith was the daughter of the dead man & niece of the rich man, which gave her membership & rank in the family. The male servant didn't want it to be made known because he didn't want Edith to marry the visiting friend of the family. He felt guilty, though and finally gave the letter to Edith. She decided to burn the letter, because she was a sweet girl & didn't want to disrupt the family. Someone pulled the letter from the fire and gave it to the rich man who was on his death bed. He finally decided to forgive his brother & read the letter. At the end he welcomed Edith into the family and she was able to be with the man she loved(the soap opera star.)
