I'm looking for amateur photography contests that is eligible to win some cash.

Are there any legit ones? Im a poor college student looking to gain some cash and get my name out there. need help PLEASE
 
competitions are for people to cheap to hire a professional photographer - - what they do is get thousands of images for the price of a cheesy prize

in my opinion no amateur competitions are legit
 
No answer, just advice. READ FINE PRINT WHEN ENTERING! A lot of contests practice "rights grabbing" where by entering...not winning or making it to finals.....gives them complete ownership of your image.

So technically, if you enter one of those contests with that in the print, and enter another one you are violating a copyright of an image that you took and can face legal trouble.

It's a sad and dirty practice, but it's definitely something to look out for and one of the main reasons I steer clear of contests on the web.
