im learning to drive an automatic car how many lessons will i need?

i have done 8 hours and feel almost ready just need to use my mirrors a bit more my instructor is about sixty and reckons you need at least 40 hours and wouldnt put anyone in for a test before that has anyone done it sooner and do you think i should change instructors a girl he has been teaching told me she has been learning since january doing 2 hours a week and he still wont let her do a test help!!

since i waited until i was 18 to learn, i only needed 10 lessons, and didn't have to take driver's ed.
