YAY least you went finally- I HATED not going- it was aweful!
This is not the time or week to try stretching your pain meRAB, really, you'll feel much more like being able to do it next week really, there may be times next week that you get up in the morning and don't need them right away, but when you get up to start doing things more on your feet you'll need them and can stretch it out. The 2nd week I was living on my pain medicine- round the clock thru the night too. You also haveto remeraber, the longer after the fusion, the better weekly you feel, so the more you try to do each week and it almost balances out for how many pain pills you take cuz you're increasing what you're doing daily, cuz time has passed, so even if you wean off some now, in a week you'll want to do more, and then kinda go back to needing them to be able to do your next accomplishement- so it all goes hand in hand. I would not relay too much on your decreasing the pain pills as what you are going to be doing is going to increase, and also the need for the pills to be able to go up the next step in healing- if you know what I mean??
You don't want your body to get accustomed to sending off pain signals all the time in your body. I can stretch them out now, a few hrs here or there especially if I am not making a harder dinner, or lifting a pot, or going to a store I can stretch it an hour or so, being up for more than 10 minutes I need one though unfortunately, and sometimes I make it thru the nite (SOMETIMES), but I'm at five weeks (I kept thinking six- but I am at 5 now).
I know we had different surgeries but you had an impinged nerve. I went to the cell store (didn't drive) last night, and I was in ALOT of pain when I got home- from the weather I think- I didn't do that much whatsoever yesterday besides that- didn't even cook dinner for the amount of pain I was in last night, and took a whole pill before we left, and was really in pain 1 hr later when we got home, and I stayed in bed for the rest of the nite. UGK!
What helps me is laying on my side with a large pillow between my knees and ankles, it really helps the pains in the back too.
What are you feeling? Nerve pains in your legs? But? Just surgical??
How are you now with your pains??? Do the pain meRAB kill off the pain for you or just taper it down a few knotches?
Even thou the doc may want you off pain meRAB at 4 weeks doesn't mean everyone heals at the same rate - AND if I remeraber correctly, he said that prior to knowing you had an impinged nerve- that makes a BIG difference for healing time. Nerves take 2 weeks per INCH to heal, sometimes longer. The sciatic nerve is the thickness of your thurab, and 4 feet long! So if you are having nerve pain, give it time they heal very slowly.
