I'm having promblems with my ford fiesta can any one help me?

Fiestas break down alot. Theres a reason that there arent that many on the road. You should really invest in a ford escort or something reliable like that my girlfriends escort has been on the road for 10 years with no recalls
 
Ive got an old m reg fiesta 1.3. it hates being cold but when warm runs really well. when cold she cuts out at junctions or when slowing down. Its very jerky when first on road and the smell of petrol is really bad when first started. Cant afford another car so could do with your help to see if i can solve it. many thanks kerry
