Just get home safe. I am having the exact same issue w 848 or 675 daytona. If you can, try and take a test ride on both. I tried the 675 and love the power/weight; it's faster than you would think, but I hate how I felt on it. To me, I felt like I was sitting way to high and coming over the tank on hard stops & corners. I still want one, but I'd drop it, and do something to cut that seat down.
On the other hand, I love the way my 748 sits, I feel I'm like I'm sitting in the bike rather on top of it. The 848 will have more low end grunt (at least it feels like it to me) and seems to want to take the corners with more stability. Mind you, that's just how I felt on them.
I still think you should try and compare both with a ride. I have found dealers here in T-town that are willing to let me run around for a good long test ride on demo or used bikes. I picked up a Duc as my first choice just because it felt like a better fit. Another good idea is to have someone take a few pics with you on both bikes and note your position. Are you over-reaching on one vs the other etc.
I did this with a new 09 Ninja ZX 6R vs the 08 675 Daytona. I can't get the 675 out of my mind, but I sit on the new zx better.
As I'm writing, I have the dealers handout catalog for both sitting next to me. Also, I think 848 will be more than enough for you and either feel way light. You'll only need extra cc's if your fat!
