I'm having a hard time debating if I should hang around my friends before I move away?

I'm moving in a few weeks and I've been packing and all, and I don't know if I would be rude for not spending time with the friends that I have before I move to California. Right now I live in Vermont but I'm not sure If I should save the pain from seeing them one last time or I should just move not telling them I'm having a hard time deciding.
