I am experiencing ignition problems with my 1998 Ford Taurus (automatic transmission). The engine won't turn or click over when I start the car. When the ignition key is left in the ON position, I am able to shift from parking all the way to first gear without depressing the brake pedal. I'm suspecting it could be the neutral safety switch. Later on, I attempted to bypass the switch by jump-starting the system. The Taurus was able to turn over. The dashboard, radio, powered windows, headlights, and all the electrical equipments work fine. I had the battery tested, and it was fine. There seems to be a lack of voltage somewhere that's preventing the Taurus from starting. Unfortunately, I don't have a mechanical background; I'm unable to pinpoint the exact cause of this dilemma. I'm not sure if it's the neutral safety switch, the starter, the alternator, or something else. Please help me identify the cause of this problem and any suggestions that should be taken into consideration.
