I'm going to school for Massage Therapy, what's the best avenue to take, Post Grad?

I want to own my own business, as a Massage Therapist, but I am unsure what the best way to go about it is. I know that it will take time to build my clientell, but in the mean time should I work in a chiropractic setting, as a means to support myself and my kids? Also, if I go this route, will this also help build up my clientell or are their other possibilities and options?
My idea for building my clientell on the outside, is to offer, free 1/2 hour massages to people, via word of mouth and the internet.
