I'm not familiar with AquaTech (do you mean AquaClear? Just checking. I know AquaClears) but basically it won't hurt the filter and would be beneficial if you take the filter apart and clean out all the parts.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT CLEAN THE FILTER MEDIA (sponge, ceramic rings, ceramic bits, plastic balls, floss, etc) WITH TAP WATER. If you must clean the filter media, just wave it around in some TANK WATER, not TAP WATER (empty a bit of the tank water into a bucket and swish it around in there). If you rinse it in tap water you will risk killing off the bacterial colony which is VERY BAD, high risk of killing all the fish.
You can wash the other bits of the filter in tap water though, like the casing, impellor, tubes, etc.
Make sure you read the directions for how to restart the filter, some of them need to be refilled with water before turning them on.
