I'm fairly sure we both like each other..nothings happening or progressing?

I've been going to school with this guy for about 5 or 6 years, and have always been decent friends. But this year (junior in high school) we have a LOT of classes together and I feel like he's become one of my good friends, maybe even my best guy friend. I've also REALLY started to develop a prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrretty big crush on him...

We have precisely the same sense of humor, and we kind of count on each other to get each other's jokes-especially in large groups of our friends-I can always trust he'll get me and laugh and vise versa :). Sometimes I just love laughing with him-we have so many inside jokes that i can just smile at him in a conversation and he knows where i'm getting at.

The only thing is, whenever we're outside of school with our usual group of friends, it's almost a little awkward between us because we are sometimes way too similar in the way that we're both INCREDIBLY.......nice. We're too like, nice. Neither of us wants the other person to feel bad, or awkward or something..which might sound weird (or sweet?) but it's the most annoying thing to me! that we can't always keep a conversation going outside of our comfort zones because we're concerned that the other person will be uncomfortable or something..

Now whenever we text each other, we have deep, ongoing conversations that last late into the night. That right there is proof that he wants to talk to me i think, especially since he starts about 75% of our texting conversations. Over the last few months, I've gotten the impression that he likes me too, so that I AM pretty sure about.

But I need help-why is it we can't have a comfortable conversation when neither of us are awkward people, and know the other one very well? i DO know him very, very well i think, but I really canNOT stand how we're too "nice" and (semi)polite to eachother in person.

Any thoughts?
