I'm debating whether I should lose weight or not?

Sorry this may be a little long...

I'm turning 16 in two weeks and this past year, I've been very self-conscious about my body. I'm 5'8" and 167 pounds. My doctor told me that I'm not overweight, but I'm still slightly chubby. People tell me I'm just fine, but I don't believe them.

I never go out in public wearing shorts or tank tops because I feel that my calves and upper arms are big. I don't want to wear a bikini this summer, because I feel that my abdomen is too chubby. I never tie my hair up because I feel that my face looks chubbier if I do.

Each time I try to diet, it only lasts about a day, then I end up ruining it. I love food and it just annoys me when I have to limit the amount I eat when my friends, who never exercise, can eat all they want and never gain a pound. I've also never been asked out and sometimes I think if I just lose some weight, maybe I'll be prettier.

I'd really like to be able to wear shorts and a bikini and I'd like to be able to tie my hair up, but I can't do it unless I lose some weight. Yet sometimes I don't feel like it's worth the struggle to worry about every single thing I eat.

What do you think - should I lose weight or no?

Thanks.
*And if I were to lose weight, I'd want to be about 140 pounds.
Katzie - Yes, I have a medium/large frame.

Well. If you want to that would be good. I mean your not huge or anything. But maybe just watch what you eat. You dont have to eat super healthy or anything. But like if you drink soda, if you cut that back you would lose alot. And if you really like soda, which you might totally not i dunno, but anyway if you do you can drink diet. Its my favorite and it still tatse good. And like just dont eat like lots of chips or candy or like greasy fast food. Promise its not hard. And maybe walk like evryday or something. I shouldnt be talking cuz i dont exercise and I should but, thats why i try to eat healthy so it kinda substitutes the NOT working out part. You know?? Anyway Im sure if you do that you will be good. Like if you guys go out and go somewhere to eat maybe order something with no cheese and sourcream or no fries or no soda. You know start cuttin back on the bad stuff. ANy way thats what will help I promise!!

Good luck, stay tuff.... :)

Dear Goats on a boat, honestly, there's nothing wrong with you. If you go to the beach for a day you will see women who are 78x bigger than you rocking a bikini, and only jerks will say anything about it. You, you've got a great shape, really. All you have to do is work out- forget dieting (though eating healthy is a good idea), and tone up. Turn that small amount of chub into smokin' muscles.

If a guy were to see you on a beach, in a bikini, he wouldn't think "Damn, obese." He would think, "Awe, what a cutie." I know this because I KNOW you, and I can judge based on more than your image. You're a beautiful girl.

xo.

The ideal weight for a woman who is 5'8 in height is 146 pounds, 167 is actually high for 5'8.

I think if you went down to 140 or even the 146 that would be the ideal. Not too skinny but not overweight.

It also depends on your bone structure and frame though. Do you have a wide body frame? Big boned?

Well since you're big framed I don't think you'd want to go down to 140 then, you would look too skinny. I'd say 145-150 would be a good goal!

Although from your teeny picture up there, I don't see how you weigh 167! You look like a twiggy!

**Agree with Taped up Scissors though--- here's a story for you. I recently went to Las Vegas, where I had this idea that all the women were super hot, super skinny and really classy. So for about 2-3 months before the trip I dieted, exercised. I was 147 at my max and was really self conscious about wearing a bikini because I had a bit of pudge around the midsection. By the time of the trip I was actually down to 139, still a bit self conscious so I bought tankini's instead of bikinis. When I went to the pool, do you want to know what I saw!?!??! LOADS of women who flaunted their overweight, flabby, cellulitey bodies in bikinis! And I was SO worried that I looked horrible yet women just wear it regardless, and i'm SURE you don't look like that so, you're fine.

I think if it makes you happy, then yes lose some weight.
But don't get obsessive about it! Just cut down on the amount of food you eat and also choose healthier foods. Then also go for a walk every day or go to the gym a few times a week to drop some more pounds and to tone up.

First of all, if that is you in that picture, you have nothing to worry about, but if you are really that self conscious you don't have to "diet" necessarily. You can always walk around the block in your neighborhood (if it's a safe one) a couple of times a day, when you go somewhere that has multiple stories take the stairs instead of the elevator, and do some yoga or pilates. You don't have to go to extremes to lose weight. Just don't go overboard and lose TOO much weight. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.
