I started traditional martial arts about 7 months ago and it was great, but I've been considering quitting lately because It's too expensive. It's $96 per month and our belt tests are $100 each, my parents haven't paid since January and they let me continue going anyway. We owe them $500, and I'm pretty mad at the fact that they overprice everything. I love the instructors and my classmates are nice but I figure I'm not cut out for martial arts, I'm more of a boxing guy. It's sad though because I signed a 1 year contract with them and I'm not sure what I can do about it.
Even If I did get a job to pay off my classes I'm not available during the weekends and my working schedule would clog up my weekdays after high school, I would have no time to go to martial arts. I'd rather spend my money on other things and I think I'll make my parents happier if they spend $100 less every month. I wanted to take martial arts so I would learn self defense but the reality is that I don't even need to know how to self defend myself because I've never found myself in that situation before and I have common sense, ex: Don't go walking alone at night, etc. Also, I have no problems carrying a switchblade around. Life isn't a contest about who's stronger or who can kick who's ass. I'd be more comfortable working in my honest opinion, what do you think?
