I'm at my wits end!

I've been to see my doctor multiple times and he keeps telling me there's nothing wrong. He says I'm just a naturally tense person who needs to try and relax more. I keep getting headaches and feeling very weak. My hands hurt so much and my arms are so weak that sometimes I can't even eat my dinner because the cutlery feels too heavy for me to manage. My hands tend to lock, especially when I'm doing something with them and when I outstretch them or unlock my hands, I get an awful electric-shock sensation run down my arms and into my hands. I have explained this to him and he just dismissed it. I have tremors in both arms, a twitch in my right arm and both arms go numb and tingly. Still my doctor says it's because I'm a bit stressed. He's given me anti-inflamatries to take because he said they should do the trick and give me some more strengh in my arms. They aren't working. I'm feeling myself getting worse. I don't know what else to do. No one seems to believe that there's anything wrong but I know that there is.

I would get a second opinion. Just an MD. I would bet he would want to do an mri because you are describing what sounds to be a disc or nerve problem in your neck. The electric shocks definitely sound like a disc problem. If that is what it is then he would send you to a neurologist or a surgeon.

Unfortunately their are bad doctors just like there are bad professionals in any business. I have a neck problem and carpal tunnel myself and I have dealt with some real idiot doctors! Did the doc. check your reflexes or push down on your head? Did he perform any strength tests? If not, then get to another doctor asap. When nerve damage occurs and you get weakness it could be permanent. Not trying to scare you - just urging you to see another doctor.

How long have you been dealing with this?

If you haven't already, I would check out the spine category here on HB also.

Good luck, update us if you think about it. Matt3507 ;)

Have you thought about ME, (cronic fatigue) A friend of mine has it, its very similar symptoms to yours, and as far as I understand it there was 'nothing wrong' And everything else had to be elimintaed first. Do a bit of research and there is a board on here.

Evannah,

I agree with Matt3507. I was also suffering very similiar symptoms and after being referred to a neurologist who originally thought that I had MS. When my tests came back negative for that, she ordered and MRI of my neck which showed that I had a couple of herniated disks, but the c5-6 disk was herniated and pressing on my spinal canal. So urgent surgery was performed. I now am looking at physical therapy for the next few months to help build up my strenghth and range of motion.
Please insist on getting a neurologist referral and do not let this condition continue. Seek out a new doctor if that is what it takes to get attention.
Let me know how you are doing.

I cannot account for all of your symptoms, the others probably have better advice, however much of your symptoms can come from severe anxiety disorder. Perhaps, while you are getting a second opinion, you could talk to a psychiatrist about an anti-anxiety medication. It has helped with a lot of my physical ailments, which I never would have guessed were related.

Luck.
