I'm at a loss

Last year I listened to rap almost exclusively....this year is me and my room mate/friend's first year in college and she's got me listening to Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins...now granted i've never actually listened to any of this before...but now its really starting to ruin rap music for me. I just have this urge to listen to Pink Floyd, I'm starting to think that "Wish you were here" is like the greatest song ever...part of this may be my "soon to be" expeditions into psychedelic (sp?) drugs.... but I was laying back last night, listening to some wu-tang, and i got tired of it...I NEVER get tired of wu-tang....I'm not saying i'm totally going to change my tastes over this...but should i just leave this kind of music alone and go back to my roots? (dont focus on the wrong part of the story)

Could be you're just growing up, tastes do tend to change. I used to love hip hop, in the past few years I've listened to it a lot less though. I still love hip hop though, I've just broadened my tastes. I only listen to old school or underground hip hop though, MTV is ruining the music industry and I can't stand it. Wish you were there and comfortably numb are two of my favorite rock songs, at least you have good taste.:)

EDIT: Listen to the wall if you decide to trip. Also, holla if you want some techno(generic I know, but so are most people's views of the genre) mixes, mixed by me of course.

to the first post, my roomate is my friend...they are the same person...we met in high school and decided to room together....im not "banging" her. I cant believe that someone else actually has the balls to stand up and say that this new shit on the radio and mtv SUCKS. Everyone else i know is scrambling to get the newest "g-unit" cd and no one gives a shit about "The Chronic" or "Ready to Die"...they dont even know what i'm talking about..."Its by Dr. Dre........Oh, isnt he that dude in all those Eminem videos?", anyways i heard some good tripping music is "Shpongle"??? i'm downloading their two cds right now, i have no idea what its going to sound like, and i'm getting some "Doors" cds, but i'm skeptical cause i'd imagine it being sorta like hendrix, which is fantastic, but not what i'm looking for. right now i'm thinking for my first trip (P. cubes) i'll do some "Kid A" or "Amnesiac" and almost definetly "dark side of the moon". I always like to hear independent dj's...hook me up.

man...the first time that was so fucking intense...there were three of us...we had each eaten like three HUGE weed brownies a piece (an ounce went into the mix, and we cut the pan into 12 pieces)...(i dont know if you've ever ingested enough weed to actually have a trip, but is incredibly interesting)....the part when that little kid is standing in the train tunnel, and the train goes by with all the kids hanging out of the side....i thought my mind was making up how disfigured their faces were...i jumped behind the couch and started FREAKING OUT. we had to turn it off and ended up just laying on the couch listening to dark side of the moon. I had an entire movie sequence of CEVs corresponding to the music...very weird. definetly want something more mellow and upbeat if i'm going to be doing a straight psychedelic.

you tired? you must be bored too, coming over here to spam my thread when you know you're one of the only people i dont like here....or maybe instead of boredom its a lack of a social life....i told you son...its community college for your bitch ass.

Congratulations, man. It's always good to broaden your tastes.

Don't abandon this music. That's STUPID. You're acting like you're "cheating" on rap by listening to Floyd. Rather, try to broaden your tastes even more. Check out other types of music, like pop, jazz, (god forbid) country, classical....there is SO much out there; I cannot believe that anyone would WANT to confine themselves to just one category of music.

The only problem i see is that i listen to more of her kind of music than i do mine...i dont want to feel like shes dictating what i listen too, i would have never thought i would get into tool or a perfect circle, but now i'm all over it...but, you're right about broadening my tastes. i've always liked classical but i gave country a shot and couldnt get into it.

Sounds like you're worrying too much about what you like, or why you like it. If you like something then go with it, it doesn't matter why you like it. I'd look at it as she's exposing you to new music, which you might have otherwise missed out on. I usually find that every time I discover something new that I like, I neglect my old favorites for a while. I'm sure eventually, when the "new" wares off, you'll find an even mixture of what you like. That's how I am, "new" always occupies most of my attention for a while, then I add it to my rotation, with the rest of my collection.

I believe it's cool to listen to every type of music. Just listening to one type sucks.
I listen from trip-hop to metal, passing thrugh a little of punk, rock, celtic, techno yadda yadda yadda.

I actually think it's cool when people expands their music taste (=

ya uhh, basically what the people said in here... shut the fuck up and broaden your tastes.
little note: pink floyd was pretty well straight edge. like they smoked a bit of pot and drank but it wasn't over the top or anything. so i can safely say a lot of their incredible music isn't just a wonderful hallucination they had.
you don't have to be a fucking druggie to love any of this kind of music. if you HAD any respectable taste, you wouldn't need mind altering substances to help you appreciate it more. sure it does enhance your trip, but don't base it around that! and maybe if you weren't fried when you first listened to the music, you would realize there's actual messages in the songs that mean something more when you're sober. and maybe if you had given any other type of music a chance instead of limiting yourself to rap, of all things--i do like some rap too, mostly the older stuff, but it's certainly nothing near to respectable to listen to nothing but-- you wouldn't have run into this problem and would most likely be a lot more interesting and knowledgeable.
i'm relieved to see that there's some variety and taste trying to break through in you, though.

as opposed to so many others who think it's totally uncool and stupid? excluding this guy of course. ugh.
