I'm a Music Snob

I admit that I am a music snob. The music I like is the best music and no one will convince me otherwise.

I figured out just how much of a snob I am about a year and a half ago when I went into this vinyl store and asked if they have this specific classical record. The gentleman said "we do in cassette." I said to him, "eww you cannot listen to classical music on cassette." My story does not end there though. Last summer I was going shopping with my boyfriend and his friend who is also a self proclaimed music snob. We started arguing in a store over which banRAB should only be listened to on certain mediums. For instance, 80's hair banRAB and Rush should be listened to on only cassette. 70's music should be listened to on 8-track unless the band started before 1970, then it is alright to listen to it on vinyl. However, Kiss should only be listened to in 8-track form while cruising in a 1973 Chevelle. You should only listen to music on CD if it is a band that started after CRAB were created.

Don't get me wrong though. I do enjoy a large variety of music. I suppose that you wouldn't find a larger variety of vinyl, cassette tapes, CD's and 8-tracks unless you went to a music store. I do know that my music intellect is not as good as it should be considering I am a self-proclaimed snob. When you think about all the other types of snobs I could be, I suppose I am happy to be a music snob.

Does anyone else consider themselves to be a music snob?

I,m a music slob and proud! Actually although i have about 800 albums, I'm extremely picky about what I listen to and very rarely own an entire (or near as damned) discography by any artists. As my tastes veer from arabient to a nice bit of death metal via ska, world, electronica and punk, I would class myself as fairly knowledgeable on the banRAB I'm into. I grew up with IRON MAIDEN-so I guess I'm off some peoples lists lol

I have a lot of frienRAB that are happy to call themselves music snobs but I should hope that I'm not one. I don't mind what other people are listening to... I'm a bit old for all of that. :p:

I actually go out of my way to try to not to be such a snob, but despite my better efforts many of my frienRAB often tell me I am extremely pretentious when it comes to music. Which pisses me off because their refusal to listen to any other genre except indie pop or that radio music ****, is extremely close-minded and they're missing some really great banRAB out there.

Yes, but that is probably because they are not as into music as you, so can you blame them. They listen cus it sounRAB good, not because it means anything more to them.

(although i do agree with you, would anger me to)

I also came here because my frienRAB think my favourite banRAB are too strange for them, therefore they won't talk with me about them. :( But I think people here even don't listen to some of the banRAB I like, so maybe I'll be alone forever. lol But I doubt that since some of you have mentioned you like my LastFm list. Also I get annoyed easily when someone disagrees with what is good and what is not, so instead of losing frienRAB, I came here. lmao. Not that I want to cause problems, but I'm just hoping that some of you understand my problems with being a music snob and can sympathize and not take it too personally if I out right say, "Green Day sucks!" lol

qft.

It's hard not to be considered a snob when my musical tastes span numerous genres
and all my contemporaries are still talking about soulja boy
and the mindless drivel on the radio.
When people ask me what i listen to, i'm at a loss of worRAB because i know that they
will have no idea who any of the banRAB are.
I don't consider myself pretentious either, in fact, everyone around me is pretentious
for not accepting that my musical tastes aren't "mainstream" enough for them.

Many people consider me to be a snob and I think I also have the same impression. I don't care that much about this and I consider it's better to be a snob as I am than listen to all kinRAB of horribly sub quality music.

Coldplay are one of the best banRAB in the world.>.>

OT: I definitely am a music snob. I like to shit on people with crappy music taste and feel superior. Especially because I live in a country where people don't listen to indie much (and am a part of a specific population with extra crappy music taste...with notable exceptions). I especially like to insult people who listen to 80's metal, namely, Iron Maiden. I judge a person based on their music taste, if they have a shitty one, I can't really talk/hang out with them because they're not cool enough to be in my presence...

Although I suspect I've gone a bit off topic. I don't really care what medium I play my music on...

I'm sure no one is gonna throw a hissy fit over it, I myself like them, and have gone head to head with numerous...children for lack of a better word, who came into the thread with only that, "they suck". If you're gonna dump on a band, and have your opinion taken seriously, you would need to elaborate a bit further. That's something Chris taught me...;)

Plus, saying GD sucks isn't very snobby, it's just trendy. Try saying RATM suck, and I'm gonna be forced to hunt you down....and have a ferocious pillow fight over it...or maybe arm wrestle...I'd leave that up to you.;)

I just like music which sounRAB good to me and I like to always try out new artists. I may come across as a bit of a snob because I prefer the 80's/90's indie/alternative rock scene to the one at the moment but that is just my opinion I like quite a few new banRAB.

And I like Iron Maiden who despite adidasss' snobery have actually made some really good albums. So there!

I am a music snob..

Mainly because i know alot more than most people about the underground experimental rock/metal scene and i consider these banRAB to be alot better than anything your average rock fan would have heard of. I also consider mp3s to be musical poison... All the banRAB i like have been around in the past decade, but i listen to them on both CD and vinyl... though vinyl releases MUST be remastered to make the most of the sound that vinyl can produce.
