...information about him. My mother's father's mother's grandfather was Nord Pierre Alexis. I'm trying to complete the family tree but I can't find any concrete information on him. Presumably, he was Haitian royalty but I can't find out how and who is ancestors were. Any suggestions?

I could only suggest a national library in Haiti as a starting point. Did Haiti ever do a census? Did they ever require registration of births and deaths and marriages? Were church records preserved over the centuries? Perhaps the Catholic Church central authority in Port au Prince can tell you about the records they have available.

Who were the French ambassadors to Haiti at the time of your ancestor's public service? Do they have a collection of papers in France, say, that might contain references to your ancestor or his family?

Perhaps the French Directorate version of CIA has files on him? Maybe they would figure that the info is so old that there is no problem releasing it today.

Didn't anyone in your family ever do a family history before this?

I can't think of anything else, offhand.
