I need an SUV with a 9 in. ground clearance to drive up a narrow, winding, rocky path to a mountain top field on our farm. 4 Runner has a 9 inch clearance. I also need 4WD for steep, winding mountain roads that get slick in rain and snow. Since we own a second home in the mountains, any other SUV would not be sufficient for our needs. American SUVs like Ford, Chevy, Cadillac, etc. are way too big for smaller persons. Honda and Acura SUVs have very low ground clearance. The Lexus SUV is too expensive. And I have concerns about Jeep/Chrysler and where to repair a Jeep if Chrysler goes out of business. So, I am considering the Toyota 4 Runner. The only drawback is that the 4 Runner is very expensive for a second car. And it is hard to find a used 4 Runner in good condition. The Toyota FJ is too young looking for me. Perhaps the Nissan Xterra would be better?
