I'm 16, might get a 1996 Pontiac Firebird BUT would my insurance company see it...

...as a sports car? help please? I've read that sometimes the firebird is not technically considered a sportscar. I'd probably get one with a v6 but my only concern is insurance rates. Being 16, I'm afraid insurance would be..outrageous, am I right? What would it be(estimated) compared to say, a 1999 honda accord 4 door? Ridiculously different? At what age would the insurance be dramatically cheaper(if it's high at all).

Thanks,
John

Some will, but when I bought an older 300ZX it was not considered a performance car because it was more than ten years old. My agent said the theory was that the issue with performance cars was exhibitionist driving, and people aren't likely to drive a ten year old car that way. If you call around for quotes I bet you will get a wide range of prices.
