I have been steadily cleaning up my credit for the past 5 years or so. This includes regularly pulling my reports, disputing information that is incorrect and of course, on time payments, low balances, ect.
Recently, 3 collection account were added, all for BMG music, through 3 different agencies, for small amounts, under $50 each. I disputed all 3 of them, 2 were deleted. I contacted the third and let them know it was not my debt. I was in Afghanistan at the time the order was placed. They told me they could not remove it without proof that it is not my debt. I told them they had to prove to me that it was my debt or else, by law, they have to remove it. They have not done so and are demanding a copy of my deployment orders. I know they are not allowed to do this, so how do I go about fighting this?
Also, I have other accounts that were delinquent years ago (2002 time frame), but they are still showing as negative. I was under the impression that after 7 years, this information would be removed. But what I'm finding is happening is a few months before the 7 year mark, the creditor "updated and verified" my account information and used the new date as the reporting date. For instance, an account that had a history of late payments that I caught up on and paid off in 2002 was "re-verified" in 2008 and now says it will stay on my report until 2015. How do I get these taken off my report? Isn't this an illegal process?
