I'll be taking swing classes while I'm on holiday (U.S.A), and I've never actually done dance..I don't want to look stupid so what should I where? I heard something about tights..anyways if you could help that'd be great.

Thanks!

Mari

The suggestion for tights came from somebody who does some other form of dance, not swing.
A skirt loose enough not to restrict leg movement will do nicely. Shoes with a leather sole will allow you to spin and turn (rubber soles can produce injuries) and the shoes should have a back so you don't have to struggle to keep them on your feet. Before you come over, you may want to pop into a local ballroom studio for a few pointers. Jive is one of the Latin dances in international ballroom, and it's basically a Europeanized version of swing dancing.

Hey Mari :),
I remember when i first started latin dancing which is a bit like swing dancing it was quite daunting but worth it. I was little but what you wear is... A loose skirt that will flow and twist when you move and that wont stop you from being able to move properly, a singlet because you will get hot dancing and a cardigan or something to go over the top that you should take off for when you are dancing. You can wear leggings if the weather is cool but remember you will get hot. For shoes wear a pair of heels that aren't plastic or rubber as plastic is too slippery and you could fall over and rubber will stick to the floor and you will fall over in them too. Try to wear heels that are leather soled but these are hard to find you could invest in a pair of latin ballroom shoes which have a suede sole which is made to dance on the floor and pick up wax to help you slide but not too much :) Don't be nervous just remember to have fun im sure there will be lots of other new people too. Good luck Hunnie :) xxx
