when i turn the key all the dash lights come on but the engine wont turn over i used a meter and im not getting12v to the little wire on the starter when key is turned on but if i put a wire on the starter and put the other end on the battery it will start does this mean i need a new ignition switch

I would check other things first: is this an automatic? you might have a bad nuetral saftey switch or you may have a broken wire to starter, check farther back on wire going to starter solenoid to see if you have 12 volts anywhere.

Yeah man, you need a new ignition switch. Try to test all the wires that goes, and comes from the ignition switch. If there isn't nothing coming out of it then it means you need a new one.

Hope this helps.
