a buddys 93 toyota d21 with the I4 had a tick in the top end. i thought it sounded like timing chain. upon removing the valve cover, the stationary chain guide had broken. so we pulled the front cover and changed both guides. upon reassembly we have been having problems getting the distributor back in time. have been setting no. 1 cylinder on TDC comp. and setting the rotor pointing at cylinder's wire. im i missing something or am i doing it all wrong?
we have had it runing but it ran rough and some times having problems starting right now. and i dont thinking its valve timing as he ran the truck for a week or so with the tick and it ran perfectly fine...he just got tired of listening to it. and when i had the front cover off i didnt remove the chain and the crank and cam sprocket pulleys both looked like they where at 12 o clock when the front cover was off.
any help would be great.
