IGN Roundtable : Launch Winner

I agree that since the Wii has come out, defenders of this sytem have this notion that graphics and gameplay shouldn't go hand in hand when in fact they should and it IS a large part of the experience to have a great looking game as well as a great playing one. Play GOW on HD and tell me its not fun. Sure, the controls for it are relatively standard, but the extreme visuals in it offer up a level of immersion you can't have in a Wii game (at least, I haven't so far.).
 
How long can you play a wii before getting tired of waving ur arms?

If i find a wii ill pick one up. I just got a ps3 yesterday and so far i like it. I got all the good launch games and so far NBA 07 looks the best and fight night rnd3 plays alot better than the ps2 version. Load times are pretty quick too. Alot of people were saying its slow, and the updates were really quick. The ps3 is user friendly.

Im sure to pick up a wii but seems likes it just going to have kiddy games?

Im really looking forward to resident evil for the ps3.
 
I think the Wii is going to dominate in sales this go around. They've had the best launch lineup and have some pretty damn solid titles lined up for the coming months to keep up the momentum.

The 360 has been a meh system up until GoW. Now that that's out the system has been slowly gaining some respect. It's also been slowly and quietly gaining in sales through all of the PS3/Wii bonanza.

PS3 is going to take a while to get going. Launch lineup has been pretty lackluster and the shortages are absurd. Not to mention that probably at least 2/5ths of the consoles sold on launch day ended up on ebay. The price tag is going to kill them for the forseeable future. They may make a late in this generation's war, but IMO, they've set themselves up to be in a solid 3rd place for at least the next 2-3 years.
 
fuck ya Resident Evil 5 is going to rock. The one I'm most looking forward to is Metal Gear Solid 4. I don't care if it's ported to the 360, I just prefer the Playstation controller for this type of game.

Anyways, even with PS3's terrible launch, I think its still going to be between Sny and Microsoft in the end, with Wii trailing behind. I love my Wii, I want it to succeed, but I can't see how it can grab the hardcore gamers when games like Assasins Creed, GTA, Re5, etc all are going to be passing over the system because of its lacking graphical capabilities. Yes, gameplay and innovation is nice, but High def graphics are also key to this next gen war.

I rented COD3 this week for the Wii. After playing it a bit, yea the controls arent bad, it feels alright shooting at the screen, but not amazing. Then I look at COD3 for the 360 and see the stunning visuals and in depth online multiplayer action. I think to myself *If I had a 360 and a wii, which version would I buy?* Obviously the 360 version wins out.

Nintendo will have its share of fun games but nothing to serious. I see the wii like a gamecube. It will be fun to play but not to take serious.

I'd like some evidence where the Wii has "proven" this. I'm sure you're probably going to point the finger at sales. Yeah the Wii sold more, but it was $250 and had a larger supply. So the Wii has proven that more people will buy a cheaper, more abundant product than an expensive, less available product. Welcome to economics 101.

Offer both systems for the same price and the same quantity then we'll discuss Gameplay vs. Graphics.

btw i don't own either system for any of you fanboys
 
it's not always about the graphics, otherwise the arguement the sony fanboys keep bringing up wouldn't have happened. The PS2 outselling the 360. Nintendo is going to pull in a lot of casual gamers on that angle alone. I think we're into an age now where owning multiple systems is more commonplace. People are going to own either a PS3 or the 360, but the Wii will be the console everyone buys to compliment their other HD friendly console. And keep in mind that the vast majority of people out there still do not own an HDTV. The number is growing, but they've got a ways to go before they're in every house in America.
