IFC Premiere Talkback - Hell Girl (Spoilers)

My Tivo guide has the wrong description; I think it's for a Witcrabroadlade episode.

Sending a nurse to hell? Why couldn't they just sue for malpractice or something?

Hello Nurse indeed!

That's a little too sweet. She must have secrets.

She'll help anyone if they're not lovesick.

Well they're obsessed.

Not my business, but should you really be smoking?

Hello Nurse again! Even if she is a minion of hell...

Ai's questioning her job...

And where was that ladybug hiding exactly...?

Jinkies! A possible culprit!

That's it, blame the nurse you drunk bastard.

FLCL background?

It's not him? Then who...?

They don't like it either?

That just isn't fair at all. She was a sweet girl; no evil for her to preach about.

An unknown random avenger, which makes him even more evil. I'm glad he's dead now.

Whose side are you on now, Tsugumi?

Senturo...?

Ooh, more backstory next week.

3 episodes remain...

Unfortunately, the show keeps up the formula for most of it's run. I don't mind episodic shows at all but for this show, it seems like having self-contained episodes hurt it more than help it.

I missed the second episode, but is "Sakasama no Chou", the OP, still cut? It was cut from the first episode, which struck me as a little odd...but then again, I hadn't seen the first episode of Hell Girl in a long time.
And they really need to stop having Mamiko Noto sing. >_> Her songs, at least in my opinion, are a bit...unpleasant.

Um, how could it be cut from the first episode if it was never in ep. 1 to begin with?

as for whether it's cut or not, not sure on that one. >_>

So I gotta wait a few more hours to watch it now. That sucks. Oh well, it's time right now; let's see what happens...

BTW, that bird from last ep sounded like the bird in early episodes of Bleach.

It's the last new Hell Girl of the year, and we're going political again!

A man who's hung himself. There's something a girl Tsugumi's age should never have to see.

Right in the children's playground. Has he no sense of decency?

Airing this RIGHT AFTER the political crap went down in Illinois.

Don't say he's "taking time out of his busy schedule". It's rude.

WHAT DID THOSE NOTES SAY?! WERE THOSE EVICTION NOTICES?! SUBTITLES PLEASE!!!

A politician who has a good reputation and is loved by his own constituents? ...something stinks round here.

Ha! I knew it! He's standing by the door!
Good thing Hajime's a main character, or he'd be swinging from the monkey bars too, if you know what I mean.

Ohhh. HUSH money.

Pull the string, screw an entire city.

Don't pull the string! Fathers ought not be put to death for crimes committed by their children!

I suppose it's a good thing they skipped the freakout this week. Somehow it'd feel a little wrong.
Oh well. So much for his re-election campaign.

ERRRGHH! WHAT DOES THAT SAY!!?!
Jeez, FUNi, would it kill you to give 'em an episode with SUBTITLES!!

EDIT: Okay, undisclosed sources and an online Spanish translator have given me the following:

Notices on the door:
GET OUT OF TOWN
APOLOGIZE TO THE MAYOR
DO YOU WANT MONEY?
POOR MAN WITH A DAUGHTER LIKE THAT
DON'T BLAME OTHERS FOR A SUICIDE

Notice towarRAB the end:
SUNFLOWER GARDENS (I'm assuming it's the name of the retirement home) IS TO CLOSE AFTER OCTOBER 13TH

I just finished watching the entire first season and I really enjoyed it. The last episode was not as good as I wanted it to be but I still liked it a lot.

I hadn't posted on the thread since the last replies didn't let me know exactly were you guys were and I didn't want to read spoilers or accidentally spoil something.

Anyways I really loved this series so far, I don't know why anyone wouldn't like it or why its not a lot more popular. I'll be starting on Season 2 tomorrow.

The nurse episode is one of my least favorites, if for a different reason than the dead animal ones. The latter get me because I'm a dog lover. The former gets me because, while a good episode, it's absolutely tragic that things turn out like that. There's no reason this innocent, wonderful person has to be sent to hell... and yet, it does. The other grievances in previous episodes are understandable - some more than others, but there is still a degree of evil in the people that were being dealt with - but this incident completely throws it out the window. But I also think it's very effective for that exact reason, both for the audience and for the characters, Tsugumi in particular.

Yay for the backstory episodes coming up.

It's a square, Tsugumi (or a quadrilateral to be more technical).

He ain't gonna turn himself in, honey, they never do.

Watch Gurren Lagann much? (I think that is Kyle Hebert too!)

Revenge is meaningless, but hey, this show is nothing without it.

Old people's lives at stake? Now there's a question of morality.

Watch Seinfeld much, Saki? Caring about the little things and neglecting the bigger things.

The mayor, was he really guilty? A question that will remain unanswered...

I'm starting to find some of these wishers to be even more disgusting than the ones before. In this case, it seemed possible to me that someone else killed Saki's father (maybe the mayor's son, judging from his attitude), while in earlier episodes the villains bragged about their evil deeRAB and their victims were pushed past the breaking point. If I had to rank some of the people sent to hell, I would feel more pity for the mayor and the last two "villains" more than the others.

Due to technical difficulties involving a glitch in my cable reception leaving Tuesday night's IFC programming strangely without sound, with the exception of film trailers and most of their promos, my commentary on this week's Hell Girl episode, "The Light of the Hospital Ward", has been postponed until the replay on Friday night.

The management apologizes for any inconvenience.

Man, I feel sorry for that nurse. I should have seen this coming(considering most of the "victims" are kinda petty.) but I was really taken aback by this one.

This week:
A little animosity between teammates never hurt anyone...right?

There is no "I" in "team". Unless you spell it "tiim".

"Hey, great practice toda--whoa, buddy, where'd you get that bruise?!"
"I...err...I fell down the stairs."

Oh dear. Guilt by association.

Hanagasa? More like HAM-agasa! (Sorry.)

A phone call to meet in a secluded forest...no witnesses...

"Of course I'd believe you didn't do it, but then who am I to go against popular opinion?"

SCREW YOUR SOUL! PULL THE BLOODY STRING!!

"I'm a nuraber one draft pick! All right! And all I had to do was frame a guy for murder!"

"What the hell is this?"
EXAC--aww, you know.

Satan's cheerleaders.

THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!!!

Looks like we're gonna need a relief pitcher.

This show appears to start out a tad formulaic. And only five more episodes until the plot kicks in.
At least the scenes of the damned's comeuppances are entertaining.

Sound's back up, so let's do this thing.

This week: Doctor, doctor, give me the news, I've got a bad case of damning you.

Tsugumi seaside / Airplane passes overhead / Hallucination.

Vengeance to God alone belongs,
But when I think of all my wrongs,
My blood is liquid flame!

"Hello nurse."

Here she comes, just a riding down the street, singing doo-wah-diddy-diddy-dum-diddy-do.

Who's checking out who here?

Now there are some guys who'd LOVE to play doctor with her.

Oh, Tsugumi. Dear little cynical, impressionable Tsugumi.

Now be nice to the damned soul.

What about it, Ai? Any clues?

Better pray he doesn't die, come back from the dead and go all Dr. Phibes on you.
(Points to whoever gets that reference.)

Aha. Lead.

Might I be seeing a change of Tsugumi's heart?

He still has a VCR? How old is this guy?

Oh dear. The nurse checked out early.

It's always so nice to know that somewhere out there in this great big world, someone doesn't like you.

Hajime? Remeraber when I said you would owe Tsugumi five trips to an amusement park when this was over? Better throw in another two for good measure.

Guess he didn't want to wait to fulfill his side of the deal.

Oh, and starting next week we get some backstory, don't we?

Trivia note: Kanako's dub voice was Larissa Wolcott, the voice of Excel for the second half of Excel Saga.

So speaking of the last ep with the old man, I have to say it was really good. its interesting but he seemed almost in love with Ai and its kinda funny how she didn't respond to him.

Anyways, I think these people still don't get a good picture of what hell is because theyall still seem too willing to go. I'm a coward and the minute Ai would tell me that I'm going to hell, then I'm outta there.

Oh, well I guess once that ferry ride comes to an enRAB, the reality of their situation must hit them like a ton of bricks. I would love to see some of their faces now...or not.
