If you've written a book/novel, how long did it take you to write?

less than three

I've been writing for a few months and I only have twenty good pages...
My sister cranks out two hundred pages every month...Where do you fall?
My writing speed will never hinder my love for writing. I'm by no means disappointed in my speed, as long as I'm happy with the quality of my writing =]

Less,

My first novel, Spook Rock, took me almost a year to complete. I believe in research when writing. Even in fiction there must be a hint of realism there. It doesn't matter how long it takes, but what the finished product reads like. Many people have ideas that come to them immediately while others take their time.

I've written two other books that took me only several months. It all depends on how fast the mind works. The more you like what you're doing the faster it goes.

Some people write a book every month, while others write one book their entire lives. I don't know if you do, but please don't think you're a bad author just because you don't write as fast. I've been writing for 2 years and I've learned that you get faster at it the longer you write. I can write about 10 good pages a day, including editing and revisions. But I have had to work my butt off to get to this point. Keep writing- and stop caring about what the rest of the world is doing.
BTW: it took me about 6 months to write the first draft, another 2 months to edit, 1 month to revise, 3 months to find "beta readers" (readers that read and give their opinions about your manuscript) and get their results back. So, it took me a full year before I was ready to even look for a publisher. Don't be in a hurry, great things take time.
