Ft. Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield. The base is nice. There are lots of things for kids to do on post. They have pools, splash parks, an indoor treehouse playground, 2 or 3 youth centers and gyms and all kinds of stuff. Free rides and famous entertainment and food on the 4th of July.
You are minutes or hours away from alot of attractions. Orlando- 4 hrs, Tybee Island and Savannah-45 min to an hour, Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island, Sea Island (Brunswick area)-1 hr, Hilton Head Island- 2 hrs, Jacksonville, Fl- 2 hrs, Daytona Beach- 3hrs, Atlanta- 4hrs.
There are historical places all over that area. Civil war forts, Revolutionary war forts (British and American) Indian forts, War of 1812 forts. Wetland preserves, fishing up the yin yang, camping (and alligators), hunting and hiking.
Last but not least, for mom and dad (and kids sometimes) there is River Street in Savannah. Bars and restaurants everywhere. Lots of cute little shops. It spills over onto Bay St. and Broughton St. too. They also have the 2nd largest St. Patrick's day celebration in the world. (second to New York City) They have a huge parade and the wearing of the green is a must. We went with green wigs, beer goggles, green clothes, and a camera because there are some characters there that are outrageous. Kids and parade= good. Kids and River Street = not too good on St. Patrick's day. Alot of drinking and partying.
We really enjoyed it and go back to visit. The MWR is great too. They sponsor all kinds of trips for young and old alike. Check it out.
One downfall.............. They do deploy A LOT. What can you expect from the highest decorated division in the Army? 3rd ID
