Obama is doing so far..? If you were currently President, how would you be handling the economic crisis? Also, what other things would you want to accomplish while in the White House?

Cut taxes everywhere! and *capitalism* will work us out of this mess
just as it always has.

I would insist that all Spanish signs be removed because we are an ENGLISH speaking country. I would also re-instate the draft!

I would deport ALL illegal immigrants and foreign guest workers. Wages would go up. Everyone that wanted a job would have a job. Americans would prosper and their wages would be spent in our economy instead of the billions that illegal immigrants and foreign guest workers ship out. All social services would see an immense drop in those using the social services. Schools would improve. Hospitals would not be going bankrupt. Crime would go way down, which costs us a fortune.

Cut taxes. Make all trade FAIR trade with tit for tat tarriffs.

well 1st things first, I definitely wouldnt be spending money like an 18yr old with their 1st credit card

I sure as hell wouldn't be spending 1.2 trillion, and bellyaching about AIG retention bonuses when these were well known about.

Stop the wasteful spending. I don't have a problem with the spending on new roads, schools, bridges. I don't really have a problem with the spending to rebuild the power grid. But the 90% of the rest that was just pork is a joke we can not afford.

Next, we need to create an environment that helps create jobs, not punishes those who do create jobs.

Ban the unions, or at least those that have gotten out of hand, just look at the UAW.

Cut taxes, freeze gov spending, both of which put more money in consumers pockets.. then stand by while that allows the economy to correct itself... I would NOT spend more money (especially by giving it to folks who have proven they are not using it wisely) that we do NOT HAVE... I would not try to impress my supporters, I would do what works, not what is popular.

I voted for Ralph Nader for a reason. He knew exactly what was going to happen, and has a well thought out plan to fix it, without throwing away tax dollars. So I'd follow his plan, and then push for the legalization of marijuana, and then define that ALL social issues (gay marriage, abortion, ect) be left up to the states. Then I'd have sex with a hot intern.

Repeal the huge spending bills they just passed, reduce the size of government by 5%, cut capital gains taxes, lower the corporate income tax rate, abolish all out-dated laws, get rid of the Department of Education (kids do no better on international tests than before), overhaul the IRS code, overhaul the Treasury Department, break up AIG like was done with AT&T and sell off the parts that the USA owns, balance the budget, enact legislation so that voters have the right to approve or not approve raises for Congress, allow drilling for oil on US soil, allow construction of nuclear facilities to generate electricity for starters.

one thing is sure. someone has to pay back all that money obama and congress borrowed from china. it will not just be taxes on the rich but higher taxes on everyone and everything

Fire a lot of excess government people, starting with the IRS. To effectively reduce taxes, we need to reduce expenses as well, so cut both.... working harder on cutting expenses than taxes, because we do also need to work toward a balanced budget, without writing a blank check to be paid for by our grandchildren.

Reduce the role of centralized national government to handle only those things that the States and local governments cannot handle on their own.

I'd raise taxes, increase spending, cut benefits to injured vets, make friends with our enemies, irritate our allies, reduce our domestic drilling for oil and hire a bunch of criminals to be on my cabinet.

Oh, wait. That's what I'd do to destroy my country.

I would most certainly not be throwing good money after bad. I would never believe that placing my country TRILLIONS of dollars in debt is a good thing. I would not give taxpayers hard earned money to crooks (AIG for example) so that they can go on vacations, take spa trips, or pay themselves bonuses.

I would not give taxpayers hard earned money to people who don't want to honor their debts and pay their mortgages. I would certainly encourage them to refinance, but I would not bail out irresponsible people who make $35,000 a year and foolishly thought they could afford a $250,000 mortgage.

I would do everything I could to minimize government intervention. I would look to cut spending by eliminating redundency and waste. I would look for ways to ensure that jobs were returned to the USA where they belong. I would penalize companies who export jobs to India, Pakistan, Mexico, etc... I would financially reward companies who create new jobs and return jobs to the USA. I would give financial breaks to companies that bring manufacturing back to the USA.

I would break the unions. Then I would put people to work at honest wages. I would help small businesses to survive. I want the Mom & Pop stores to be able to make a living rather than WalMart to control everything.

I would keep religion out of government and government out of religion.

I would fix the tax structure so that everyone pays a fair share. Why should property owners be the only ones to pay school taxes. The family living in a rental sends kids to school without paying a dime. Not going to happen folks! Everyone pays a flat school tax and then for each child you send to school you pay "x" more.

I have millions more examples, but that's the end of my soap box for today.

1. Implement a flat tax rate.
2. Stop all money being sent to other countries, period, until we get our mess and debt straightened out then we can help others.
3. Stop pay raises for congress (they dont deserve a raise right now).
4. Eliminate lobbyists.
5. Heavliy tax corporations that continually ship jobs overseas and provide incentives to those companies who keep Americans working.
6. Drill for oil here until we can build a different infrastructure with an alternative for our vehicles. (eliminating oil company lobbyists will help here).
7. We need a better watchdog group too for people that abuse the government aid (welfare, social security/disability etc.) There are to many people taking advantage of the system when they are perfectly capable of getting a job.
