If you were raised in a racist environment but now know better ...?

Getting out of that environment, number one, asking questions and being around other people and honestly subscribing to the idea that we are all human, one race, period.

Hmm...?

RAISED IN A RACIST ENVIRONMENT...I have lived both in the city went to black schools and now live in the country. I have heard racism on all sides including from myself at times. I think our minds pick up what we see from others naturally and it is up to us with what we do with the information that our brains recieve.

WE CAN CHOOSE TO: Be kind to others, non judgemental,

OR WE CAN: Be offensive, afriad of others, suspicious, judging, unfair,

I think people think the way we do do to our survival traits but I am not sure on that yet.

I normally judge people by their temperament. I like quietness a lot and respect from everyone...

What changes my mind towards others... is thinking and asking questions to why I feel the way I do. I don't ever stop myself from asking it be politically correct or not.

Obama has made me feel some better about others. I have had issues with some blacks in the community I grew up in, but I am over them living my life the way I like. I think we all as individuals have to just live our own lives the best way we can.

If someone speaks hate to you, " I say stand up to them or get away fast", is what I have done.

Getting along with others all starts with respect demanding it and giving it as well. Cultures especially black and white doesn't show enough respect towards eachother enough is the biggest problem ( in my opinion).

What changed my mind? Knowing at the end of the day we are just human beings. Also that their is a chance in the future that we all can have a place where we normally get along fine.

Not to beef openly but I have concerns for both sides of white and black issues. Difficult situations in America we must face and deal with.

There are hot issues on each side of diversity. Every race to me seems to have their own opinions about things.

My opinion is you should have friends and make sure they respect you and you respect them and don't make to much out of national or culture differences because honestly I have found this to be a waste of time.

TIMES I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND...
When I watched Black in America last year
When Obama ran and won for President
When Eminem made the song White America
When Blacks have said mean sprited things at me such as, white boy, cracker, caucasion, kkk, for no appearent reason to me.

All these personal events have changed the reality of how I think, feel, and act towards others. I am for the most part postive about it. The more educated and the more self confidence you have the better to deal with insecurities you may have towards other races.

I live in what is known as the racist capitol of the world by some and I am in no way fashion or form a racist. The place I live has made the news on more than one occasion it's a little town called Vidor, Texas. I have dealt with the assumption that I am a racist all my life however within a few short moments people can see that I am not. I can't say that is was any specific event that caused me to be the way that I am it's more in how I was raised and what I was raised around. I can remember when I was little and I would hear people make comments about others because of the color of their skin and it would make me sooo mad! Even tho I was young and raised around people who were racist I knew it was wrong to treat others that way. I never succumbed to the ways of thinking of those around me and I can tell you I lost a many of "friends" because they couldn't treat people fairly but I just couldn't associate myself with such narrow-mindedness. I'd rather be a free thinker and do whats right in my heart than follow others just because it is whats expected.
