AA Degree? My friend is completing courses at a junior college in hopes to transfer to a 4 year college. She told me she was getting an AA degree..she never mentioned this before..and always assumed she was just transferring to my school a 4 year, once she completed the lower division requirements. I didnt think you would get an AA degree if you were just transferring. With an AA degree arent you specialized in something? I dont think you receive an AA just for completing lower division courses. I think she is confused.

junior college does have AA degree, you just have to complete all course that's require AA. Getting AA doesn't mean you already can transferring to 4 year. You also have to complete the 4 year transferring pattern courses. They're both separate.

An A.A. degree is the general education requirements you need to meet when transferring to another university. This is what you receive when you are going for your bachelor's or above. It is an estimated 60-62 credit hours of class work in order to earn the A.A. degree. The second 2 years are what your major is all about, which is taken at the transfer institution.

I think you were thinking about the A.A.S. degree, where you "specialize" in the field right away. There is also an A.S. degree which is transferable, but more "in-depth," usually science/mathematically, but this is not always the case. Good luck!
