If YOU had your own animated series...

Needless to say, all of us posters here at Toon Zone are fascinated by cartoons. They capture our imagination, take us to worlds we can't see anywhere else. And for many of us, they inspire us to take a shot at crafting our own worlds and characters that we'd one day love to see grace the silver screen and be enjoyed by millions of viewers the world over.

Now's your chance to share your dream. What kind of animated series would you make? What style of animation would it be in? Any voice actors in mind? TV stations you'd like to pitch it to? I know from talking with some of you that you have some interesting ideas, so let's hear them!
 
This is an interesting thread idea...in fact, I think we had a thread like this a while back...but as I said before, while I do indeed have cartoon ideas that I hope to see come to life one day, I don't reveal any of my ideas on the internet, because the walls have eyes and ears and thieves lurk around every corner. (Not too paranoid, right?)

Revealing an idea that you care about on a public message board without first obtaining the services of a lawyer or a copyright is like parking your car in the bad part of town with the doors unlocked and the keys still in the ignition; ya just don't it.

However, I will say what I'd like to achieve in my cartoons:

As many of you already know by now, I'm an advocate of gender equality in cartoons; I try to come up with equally good, funny and juicy roles and characterizations for both male and female characters. And I like the funny. While I do enjoy a good action cartoon, my first love will always be comedy. I try to inject as many clever jokes, sight gags and laughs as I can into my shows. And I like crazy stuff that simply can't be done in live-action. I like to bend and warp the rules of reality in my work, I like weird, absurdist stuff like alien monsters taking up residence in suburbia and everyone else more or less accepting them and letting them join the PTA, that sort of thing. I'm not all that into 'animated reality', and I generally try to avoid political and social humor in my work. Generally, I like for my cartoons to take advantage of their cartoonishness.

Animation-wise, I prefer hand-drawn overall, but I'm open to CG, as long as it's professional-looking. I'm not a huge fan of Flash, but it's cheap and easy to produce, so I could see myself going that way when I first start out, until I have a bigger budget to work with.
 
Seconded. Mine is top secret. I've poor man's copyrighted my idea, but why take chances. Once I can get everything together, get a copyright, and start to work on it, then you'll see my motives and intentions.

I will say this, I always wanted to make a cartoon series that made fun of conventions of cartoons. Something that just embraced and slaughtered the genre at the same time.
 
I don't know what mine would be about but the only voices actors I'd consider is original/newbie talent, Tara Strong, Steven Blum and Myself.
 
I have a few ideas
  • One is similar to Charlie Brown
  • One is similar to Ren & Stimpy
  • One like Invader Zim only not as dark
  • One has a plotline so unique I am not saying it here
And I want to do at least some of the voices
 
I have a few ideas, but i think it's best if i went the webcomic route.

If it were an animated series, I might look for a network that gives more creative freedom on animated shows. Doesn't FOX offer that?

The only clink is they're two quick to cancel a show. I have a strong feeling my cartoon would only attract people who aren't Nielsen Families, so I'd be screwed.
 
Ditto on keeping ideas to oneself. I was amazed at that contest held by an animation company or licensor--was it Nickelodeon? Can't remember. It was a cartoon show pitchfest, and the "winner" probably had to give up all rights to the show.
 
Well, I'm still working on this idea but my idea for an animated series is basically like X-Men Evolution meets all things pop culture.

Basically the protagonists are like the Evo versions of the X-Men and the students know they're mutants and yeah, they're hated but the characters do have human friends and they don't live in a mansion.

Their allies are a homage to various characters like from Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Naruto, Sailor Moon, etc.

The villains are basically homages to the Decepticons from Transformers, Freddy Krueger, all that stuff.

So, my idea is basically in the spirit of shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And my idea would get a TV-PG rating.
 
i have an idea for a show that with absurdism humor and a strong sense of conitunity i would use the animation from super jail.Or stuff like the rejected animation or possible ed,edd,eddy.I would pitch it to adult swim or comedy central or IFC

Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network both did that kinda thing. But either creator of a winning short got all creative licenses taken away. But Cartoon Network is more known for giving it's show creators more creative freedom, while Nickeldeon can deal out a longer runtime if your show is successful. But Danny Antonucci (creator of EEnE) has said that he give his show to CN, due to Nick wanting total creative control. :sweat:

Basically, I think if you want more creative freedom, then you may want CN.
 
If I had my own animated series, I see FLCL (a.k.a. Fooly Cooly) being a big influence on it, both visually and in terms of being a mundane life meets supernatural/sci-fi/action meets cartoonish insanity that would give Tex Avery a brain aneurysm. For example, a character with a marijuana addiction ends up with a literal monkey growing out of her back, and when she goes to a Kaballah mystic for a cure, she accidentally takes his super strong stash of pot instead, causing the monkey to grow into a King Kong style ape with her stuck to its butt, and everyone must race to stop it before it reaches the Dutch embassy and becomes unstoppable from all the reefer within.
 
Well, I guess my animated series would be a bit story based. I'd pretty much balanced out the gender issue. I prefer the animation to be hand-drawn. Maybe, J.M Animation Studioes (the studio that animates Avatar) could animate it.

Voice actor-wise, I'd go for all kinds. James Arnold Taylor (I'm pretty sure he can do a deep Austrailian accent without sounding...well...generic), Josh Keaton or Dave Wittenberg, Ashley Johnson, Will Friedle, Tara Strong, and Richard Steven Horvitz for the leads.[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
 
Since I'm turning all my cartoons in to comics and graphic novels, I haven't put much thought into making animated series anymore.
 
As it's been previously stated, I'm not going to reveal any of my personal ideas, for the purpose of keeping them my own. However, ideally, my animated series would:

-Have fluid, colorful 2D animation (I generally prefer hand drawn animation to CGI, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of producing some CGI DTVs, though).

-Be a twisted take on contemporary society, but not so topical that the references would soon become dated.

-Be filled with material/gags and story lines that could only take place in a cartoon universe.

-Deliberately appeal to both male and female audiences in equal measure.

-Be funny on more than one level, so that you don't have to be an young hipster or an old ethnic to get the joke.

-Have a mostly human cast (I prefer human characters to anthropomorphic animals because humans are easier for me to draw).
