The second answer is right. It's a miracle that everything is just right in the womb when pregnancy occurs... the sperm is in just the right place to encounter the egg when it pops out, they fertilize at just the right time to get in the uterus and not the tube, the uterine lining is just right.. there are no chromosomal abnormalities...
It could be that the egg was immature, the sperm cells may not have found the egg, fertilization may not have occured, if fertilization did occur the cells may not have started dividing correctly . . . sometimes implantation does not successfully occur in the uterus.
Look at IVF - in IVF - they take the egg and sperm and cause fertilization to occur in the lab. They then transfer the fertilized egg back to the uterus . . . but sometimes pregnancy still does not occur usually because successful implantation has not happened.
It is amazing that any of us get pregnant!

humans are the most infertile species on the planet, with only a health couple succeeding at 20-25% per cycle. But good news, you should get pregnant within 6 months, or may be a bit longer at a year. Count your blessings tho if you are both healthy, Imagine the odds for a couple that may have infertility factor.
Sometimes the sperm doesn't quite meet the egg.
Sometimes there's an issue with the egg, and it's quality.
Sometimes it does, fertilization happens, but then implantation fails to happen.

That is what I have been wondering I am not sure. Hmm that is a great question. Probably it is just the sperm does not meet the egg. Sometimes it is easy and sometimes it is not so easy. It just depends on when is your time. But yeah that is a good question.
