Please only answer if you are sure that the information is accurate please! :D Do they arrest you? is it different for certain states? does the government offer therapy to these people? Do they throw you in a looney bin? what happens to suicide survivors?

In most states, attempted suicide is not a crime. In those states where there is a statute on the books, it is not enforced. Instead, attempted suicide is seen as evidence of a mental illness and can result in a temporary committment to a mental institution.

You are not arrested and put in jail. You are asked to go into a mental hospital and get help, if you refuse they can put you in for a three day hold while they get a one year court order making you get treatment. You are given counseling and medication and coping skills that hopefully stabilize you.
