If you are sworn in at MEPS, but change your mind about the navy before boot camp,...

...what do you do? Just curious. My husband is at MEPS right now, and he's pretty gung-ho about all of it, but just to be completely positive, after MEPS if he has to wait a ridiculously long time (like a year or more) is there a way out for us?

The swearing in comes after the papers have been sign - at that point he is the property of the US government. If he fails to report, he will be list as UA (Unauthorized Absence, same as AWOL for other branches).

The way you word your question makes me assume your husband is in the DEP for the Regular Navy. If that is so, he is not yet absolutely committed to shipping out, as he will be required to take the oath of enlistment again, on his ship date. Should he refuse to do so, the Navy will have no choice but to DEP Discharge him, with no repercussions.
I sincerely hope he does not change his mind, as the Military needs as many intelligent, eager young people as it can find and the job skills and other benefits are much better than he will ever find on the outside.
Just take a look at the want ads in your local newspaper, you will find all kinds of ads stating: "Help wanted, must have experience". The US Military says: "Help wanted, WILL TRAIN". You decide which is a better deal.

I was advised by my father, who is in the Army, that as long as he doesn't swear in again he doesn't have to ship. The second swearing in is what really counts. Just sit and think about all the pros and cons. I wish you both the best with your decision. I ship out in January.
