can someone help me analyze this poem please

"This last guy" someone called him
when I read aloud to the class of teachers,
disparagement on the surface of her words
and directly I knew that
Larkin had been pegged appropriately--
this last guy among the Whitsun couples,
the church's pavement,
the unabsolving guitars,
and lurking in the women's ward.
"Was he married"? from someone else.
How to say it didn't matter that it mattered?
And what the meaning of the shelves
and all that jazz?
"Unchilded and unwifed" at fifty
and beyond,
he lay stuck in a mind-twentienth-century funk,
etherized upoh his table,
arriving too late at the station,
and wondering merely that there was no sense of loss.
