If Toyota is supposed to be named after its founder's family, then why

isn't it actually called "Toyoda" (D)? President Toyoda told our (the USA) government that his name is on all of the vehicles his company makes. "Hmm... Oh, really, Akio? Is that so? Well then, why didn't Gramps name his company 'ToyoDa'?"

Where did the t come from? Why would they replace the d in their name with a t when creating the company name, while still claiming to name their company after themselves?

Will you come back and see what follow-up responses I ended up giving your answers? Thanks, if so.

Probably just a typical variant that looked better to english eyes. There's tons of letters like that spelled in various ways in other countries. Try getting a single spelling for khadafi from libya, for instance.

It had something to do with a Japanese superstition. Supposedly spelling it with a T would bring them good luck in America. It worked, up until now.
