If they made a new Judge Dredd film who could be Dredd?

This thread could definitely be widened to include possible actors to play various 2000AD characters

Sinister - Colin Farell
Dexter - Idris Elba

Farell could also do a passable Nikolai Dante

I'd imagine a new Dredd film would take inspiration from the classic Dredd stories of yesteryear. The film has to appeal to as many people as possible and 'reinvent' the character. Many people only know of Dredd from the original Stallone film and that's a big negative - it's regarded as one of the all-time worst comic book to film adaptations - so any new film has to start again; it has to be something like 'Judge Dredd Begins' so I guess the story will be about a fairly young Dredd out on the streets. Older Dredd - as seen in current 2000AD - would seem less likely in a new film, there's too much backstory to suit a reintroduction to Dredd.

Makes more sense to keep Dredd fairly one dimensional in the new film and let the story be about the city and the crimes/perps. If the film is a hit, a sequel could focus more on Dredd.

there are / were some fantastic 2000AD stories and characters that could be brought to the big screen and be a success, given a decent script, director and budget

what about the following?

Bad Company (my favourite strip of all time, with obviously Arnie as Kano!)
Rogue Trooper
Slaine (from the Time Killer era)

Rebellion is actually prepping a new Dredd movie isn't it?
I think Josh Brolin would be great for Dredd with maybe Cate Blanchett as Anderson but Hollywood would probably skew younger as it only makes blockbusters for teens these days.

If Arnie played Kano we'd have the same problems we did when Sly played Dredd, the character would be altered too much from the original and in any event he's too old now

Which version of Rogue Trooper, the original or Friday?

How about a CGI version of A.B.C Warriors?

Yes, it was announced December of last year.

Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry was the inspiration for Judge Dredd. John Wagner, co-creator of Dredd, took inspiration from Dirty Harry and imagined an even tougher version of the cop set in the future and the result was Judge Dredd.

John Wagner also wrote a comic character called Dredger in Action Comic - this was prior to writing Dredd in 2000AD. Dredger was a Dirty Harry type cop too and the character most likely convinced Wagner to go one step further and create Judge Dredd for the new sci-fi comic 2000AD.

omg i remember dredger i still have the action comics!
