You are wrong.
Jesus said that if you REALLY want to know (DO you really want to know if God is there? Or is this a typical hypocritical question, implying that you want to know, when you really don't?) But if you DO want to find God, Jesus said "OBEY THESE COMMANDS, and you SHALL know (one way OR the other)!" (Notice He didn't say anything about believing or having faith! This is an objective "acid test" and if you don't take His challenge, then you have no room to talk about it!) (I am of the opinion that He was referring to the Sermon on the Mount, starting in the 5th chapter of the gospel according to Matthew).
In the Old Testament, God said, "If you seek for me, then you shall find me, if you search for me with all your heart (with a humble and honest heart), and I shall be found by you, says the Lord."
God indicated that He would reveal Himself to the person who is humble and has a contrite heart, but that He would hide Himself from the proud, the arrogant, the skeptic, the scoffer, and the mocker alike.
So, if you think God is hiding from you and you can't seem to find Him, then look to your OWN heart to discover the reason WHY you can't seem to find Him!
In the words of Jesus, the only reason you reject God is "because your deeds are evil, and you love darkness and hate the light!" (In other words, the ONLY reason why you don't believe in God is simply because you don't WANT to believe in God, because to do so would mean that you would have to quit your sinful lifestyle!)
It's not GOD who isn't very nice; it is YOU, because you tell lies about God, and you refuse to find out the Truth! You reject Truth, then give a lie as though it were true!
