Why was I told by my doctor that the swabs they've sent in to have tested were just being thrown out because here in the U.S. it doesn't seem to be anything worse than a cold?? Are we all being played for suckers??? is this just another way for them to force more taxes on us. and force us to believe in nation health care as a good thing?? Do they think we are all blind and stupid sheep?

The media overhypes EVERYTHING for ratings. The people running these companies need to read "The Boy Who Cried Wolf".

No, every year 30000 americans die to the regular flu. The news just wants to hype stuff so they get more publicity.
It's absolutely not as bad. Unfortunately, very little was understood about the virus at the early stage. Influenza evolves extremely rapidly and there was the worry that the new strain could be especially deadly. As it turns out, it's no worse than ordinary seasonal flu (which actually kills about half a million people each year worldwide .. did you know that?)
If this had instead been H5N1 (the bird flu people were worried about before) then that would be very bad, because it kills 60%+ of the people it infects. If that strain ever evolves the ability to spread between humans then tens of millions could easily die. Hence, the media were panicked that this H1N1 outbreak could be as bad as H5N1.

this flu is no worse than the regular flu. The only difference is that it's occurring late in the season. The media is milking this to get viewers. Just like the global warming bunk. Facts remain the same with this flu as with the regular flu. Highest risks are the very young, the elderly, and people with cancer, AIDS, and other diseases that affect the immune system
i honestly think the government is blowing this all out of proportion. the swine flu is just like the regular flu, there's no difference. the flu kills people every year, just like swine flu. the only difference between the swine flu and the regular flu, is that the doctors don't know what it is exactly, they only know how to treat it. im sure when they are done experimenting and figuring out what it is exactly everything will slow down and getting the swine flu will be a normal thing, just like the cold and flu.
